This is about that time of year when colds or the flu runs through our family. With Sam working longer hours. The busyness of the Holidays. Interacting with lots of Family and Friends and one of the younger boys forgetting to wash their hands… again. You are asking for our home to become a breeding ground of germs! Over the years when the Kids are sick, we learned these are our MUST have supplies to have on hand and help everyone to feel better.

The MUST Have Supplies
Orange Juice and Pedialyte. Gotta stay hydrated! Elderberry Syrup that I make from a DIY Kit OR Elderberry Gummy Vitamins. Sam, myself, and the Kids will take either the Elderberry Gummy Vitamins OR a certain amount of the Elderberry Syrup daily. Cough Medicine. We like the Zarbee’s Naturals OR Hyland’s Kids Brands. Lolleez Throat Soothing Pops for Kids with sore throats. Infant and Children’s Tylenol in case of fever. Zarbee’s Naturals Baby Soothing Chest Rub OR any brand of Nasal Strips for those Kids struggling to breath in the night. A Humidifier for the Kids that are overly congested.
Boxes of Tissues stashed all around the house. Sanitizing Wipes so I can de-germ Door Knobs, Light Switches, Bathrooms, and other often touched items as part of my evening cleanup. Chicken Noodle Soup and Crackers. Either Homemade OR Store-Bought Cookie Dough… because when everyone starts to feel better than we all deserve a treat. 🙂
The Daily Expectations
Over the years I have learned to adjust our schedule and just relax during the day. Or as much as you can when the Kids are sick. Olivia and the Boys enjoy a lazy PJ and TV Day OR multiple days depending on how long something runs through our house. We stick to a loose daily flow of what the Kids are used to. But if Olivia or the Boys fall asleep on couch or in their beds, I let them be. I don’t worry about completing schoolwork or them sleeping too long past nap time and then not going to bed at their usual time.
The Laundry is kept under control as needed so a mountain doesn’t begin to grow when I’m not looking. Doorknobs, Light Switches, Remotes, and Bathrooms are all sanitized daily to give us a fighting chance against the germs trying to take over our home. Remembering to Lysol the Couch and Throw Pillows become part of Evening Routine once Kids are tucked in for the night. Then Sam and I will head to bed once the evening chores are completed because who knows if or when we will be up in the night caring for a sick child.
