What My Family’s Morning Routine Looks Like

September 11, 2024 by GrowingConfident Leave a Comment

I am a sucker for other people’s Morning and Evening Routines so I thought I would share what ours looks like with you. This Morning Routine involves my 8 months pregnant self and five kids ages 7 down to a 1-year-old. This routine usually begins right around the time my husband is heading out the door to work so between 730- 8a. Keep reading to see what my family’s morning routine looks like on a typical day.

Wooden table set with a green plant in a pink pot, an open journal with a black pen resting on an open page. an orange coffee mug with the saying Go Get Em on the front filled with black coffee.

Wake Up

After waking up I usually take a minute to brush my teeth and pray over the day before I get the kids up.

Breakfast Preparations

Fill my water bottle, make coffee, and get chocolate milk for kids. Sam got them in this habit a few years ago as they saw him drinking chocolate milk and wanted to take part in that. Most mornings we do a quick breakfast of Chocolate Chip Muffins, Apple Sauce and Bananas.

Morning Reading

Sometimes we will do our Morning Reading while the kids eat breakfast. Then I will eat something when we finish. Other times we may cuddle on the couch after breakfast and begin our Morning Reading. We start by reading the Bible, currently we are working through the Psalms. Next, we read a Help Me be Good book by Joy Berry or a Heroes for Young Readers by Renee Taft Meloche. Together we recite our Bible Memory Verse for the month. This year we are using the Pip and J Papery ABC Scripture Memory Cards. Then we share what each of us is grateful for that day, and close with prayer. This is also the time where I share with the kids anything they need to know about what is going on for the day such as a project for school, fun activity we have planned, people coming over, etc.

Get Dressed

I do not plan what I will wear the night before, I am more a choose in the moment based on my mood kind of person. From there I change diapers and help get kids dressed. Some days we do just hangout in our pajamas because we homeschool so why not 🙂

Morning Chores

This involves cleaning off the table from breakfast. Empty and load the dishwasher. Wipe down counters, sweep the dining and kitchen areas. Pick up around the house. Straighten bedrooms and make beds. These chores vary depending on the age of the children, but everyone is helping during Morning Chores. I will also get anything ready for dinner at this time such as thaw meat, gather ingredients together, etc.

Look Over Daily Plans

For a few moments I relax, drink coffee and look over my daily plans as the kids play. This is also the first time I check my phone for the day. Maybe look at emails, respond to texts, or just check in with my husband to see how his morning is going.
