My List of Must-Have Newborn Boy Essentials

September 18, 2024 by GrowingConfident Leave a Comment

In a few months we will be welcoming our 6th child, which will be our 5th boy consecutively. Considering the last five pregnancies we have been preparing for boys I wanted to share My List of Must-Have Newborn Boy Essentials. Most of these items I will not have to buy as I will already have them on hand, but when preparing for a new baby I always make sure these are the items I have ready to go for our new bundle of joy. Whether you are expecting your first or 6th child you never need as much as you think right off the bat. Keep reading to learn what is on My List of Must- Have Newborn Boy Essentials.

Must Have Newborn Boy Essentials

Newborn and Size 1 Diapers, Wipes, and Diaper Rash Cream are obviously a must- have! Consider purchasing some Vaseline if you are having your son circumcised.

Gas Drops are always wonderful to have whether you are breast feeding or using formula as the first few weeks baby may have a gassy tummy. I also purchase some Infant Tylenol as this comes in handy when they are going through a growth spurt.

An Infant Grooming Kit. This may include a Brush, Nail Clippers, and Nasal Aspirator. These items usually come in handy the first few weeks.

A few Gowns, OR Pjs. I try to have 6 to 8 of these cleaned and ready to go because you don’t know whether you will have to change your baby numerous times throughout the day or not due to spitting up or blow out diapers.

Swaddle Blankets OR a Special Blanket are necessary so you can keep baby warm those first few weeks or in the chilly Fall and Winter months.

Snacks for nursing, Nursing Bras, Breast Pump, Milk Storage Bags, and Nipple Cream all come in handy if you choose to breast feed even if only for the first few months.

A Diaper Bag OR Backpack and possibly even a Baby Wearing Wrap for the when you decide to venture out.

A Car Seat and Stroller. We have loved using the Baby Trend brand over the years. Read what we love about our Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger Stroller- Centennial.

Newborn Items I will NOT be Buying

Over the years I have learned that these items are not necessary for my babies. OR I figured out alternatives that worked just as well. But hey, if these items are a must- have for you then great! Figuring out what items work for your baby and make your life easier are what matter.

  1. Mittens are unnecessary as most newborn clothes have these built into the sleeve. Also trimming your baby’s nails will help if they keep scratching their face.
  2. Magic Poop Trash Can. A plastic grocery store bag and tossing it in an outside trashcan will do the trick.
  3. Noise Machine. With 5 older kids our house had plenty of noise already. Playing soft music throughout the day from your phone or smart TV will also do the trick.
  4. Infant Bathtub. We learned long ago that a soft towel or two in a clean kitchen sink serves the same purpose and makes clean up easier.
  5. Changing Table. I have never had a changing table for any of our kids. For the first few months our babies have always slept in a bassinet in our room so the “changing table” has been laying the baby on our bed to change them.
