I wanted to do this post for kicks and giggles because we know as moms that our ideal day very rarely happens. I paint the picture of what I would like my daily routine to be on this specific day in May but keep reading to find out what really happens 🙂 Was I able to get everything done on my To Do List and what surprises greeted me throughout the day.

The Ideal Daily Routine
I like to have a plan rolling into a new day. What do we have going on, what tasks do I need to get done, etc. Usually I have school, work, and household plans as part of my daily routine. Throw caring for 6 kids and fixing three meals in the mix and a day quickly flies by if you aren’t intentionally paying attention. The Real Daily Routine
On this particular day in May I actually only have the 5 boys as Olivia was having a sleepover for a few days with my parents. With one kid down sometimes things go more smoothly, but not this day! It was a dreary rainy day so there was no going outside to run off that boy energy. When I talked with Sam later in the day, I told him interruptions was the theme for the day.
Morning Routine
6a Wake up to our cat, Cupcake, scratching the door. When Olivia is gone, she is constantly trying to find her in the rooms that are closed off. Continue to lay in bed because I am not ready to get up yet.
630a Get up because Micah is fussing. Fix a Bottle. Feed Baby. Change diaper and put him in his walker. Normally Sam is up with him for this first feeding, but he had to go in early on this particular day in May. Quick clean the apartment. Clean the cat box. Take out the trash.
7a Fix Chocolate Milk and Breakfast for the Boys. I made Banana Bread the night before to help myself out. Make Coffee. Boys are up and come out of their room even though I heard them at 640a talking with each other. Cuddle and visit with the Boys. They eat Breakfast. Attempt to read my Bible and a chapter from Mother Culture: For a Happy Homeschool by Karen Andreola, but I am met with MANY interruptions.
AM Block
8a Morning Time and Chores with the Boys. Reheat coffee. Get myself dressed. Care for and change a fussy Baby who had a blowout diaper. Set him on the floor with blankets and toys to wiggle around. Clean his walker. Deal with Boys fighting over a microscope and not wanting to take turns. The two-year-old roams around apartment and opens kitchen drawers until he takes out a spoon to use as a sword. Fold Laundry.
9a Two-year-old continues to roam the apartment. Takes some toys out of the bathtub. Heads to the kitchen and opens the trashcan to throw a toy inside, but I catch him in time. Roams some more. Take a minute and fill everyone’s cups with water, Text the Grandparents to check on Olivia and see how her sleepover has been going. Put the Baby in his swing for a nap. Make myself breakfast and share it with the two- year- old and four- year- old. Comfort a needy two-year-old. Help five-year-old with his microscope. Watch Brown Bear, Polar Bear, Panda Bear and Baby Bear, What Do You See/Hear? video on YouTube with two-year-old. This fun video always helps to calm him down.
10a Reheat coffee again and check my phone while the Boys watch Bible Man on the Kids Minno App. l also took this time to plan out What My Kids Want to do This Summer and order any supplies we may need.
11a Make Lunch for the Boys. Feed Baby. Quick Clean Up with the Boys and then do a Read Aloud.
PM Block
12p Put the Boys down for Nap/ Quiet Time. While they rest this is my Work Block. Listen to a Podcast and halfway through Sam calls. Talk with him for a few minutes then finish Podcast. Deal with constant interruptions from Boys who refuse to be quiet and rest. Try to edit a guest post Sam wrote on Hospital Births vs. Home Births for the Blog.
2p Make and eat my lunch. Prepare a snack and let the Boys up. Fold laundry with the Boys’ help. Play a Bug Match Game with them.
3p Read with my six-year-old. Feed Baby. Make Iced Coffee because I am POOPED! Woke up two-year-old who slept until around 330p. Usually, all the Boys are up around 2p, but the older Boys kept him awake on this particular day, so he didn’t fall asleep as early as he usually does. Create a List of Read Aloud Books I want to read with the kids over the coming months.
430p Dinner Prep and the Boys watch some TV. Sam comes home around this time.
5p Eat Dinner. Read and play with the Boys. Sam builds a barn that our five-year-old got recently for his birthday. Feed Baby and change him into Pjs, Put him in the swing. Check tracking for a package I am expecting. Talk with Mom on the phone for a few minutes.
Evening Routine
7p Talk with Sam while the Boys play with the new barn. Get Boys ready for bed.
8p Get myself ready for bed and read for a little while.
930p Fall asleep.
