Why Start a Blog in 2024? Pursuing MY Dreams.

March 13, 2024 by GrowingConfident Leave a Comment

Starting a blog has been on my mind for almost five years. I can’t explain when I first had this thought or why it came to be. I just remember being pregnant with my second child, and God planting that seed in my heart. I had no idea what I would write about or everything that would go into this endeavor. I just knew it was worth pursuing when the time was right, and God would fill in all the details I was wondering about.

Now here I am a few years later and I am doing it! Some of you may be thinking, well it took you long enough! However, I realize over the past few years God has been preparing me for this adventure. In this post, I want to share with you why I’m starting a blog in 2024 and where I hope blogging will take me.

Starting a Blog to Help with Family Finances

Since getting married and having children, my husband and I have followed the Dave Ramsey plan. You may have heard of his book The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness. Or the course Financial Peace University which is his proven plan to win with money. We have loved these resources and they have been super beneficial. At times however I have also been discouraged with the tortoise like progress we have made in our financial journey.

When I look back over the years and remember all the kids we have been blessed with. The handful of times we have moved, and life’s daily expenses then I see we are doing the best we can with what we have. My personality still wants to do better and progress quicker. Rather than get a job outside the home, and spend time away from my kids, I am hoping to help our family reach financial goals faster. By staying consistent and learning what I can, over time I will be able to monetize this blog to bring in a second income. Slow and steady wins the race.

Flexibility to My Day

My hat goes off to the moms that load their kids up every day. Drops them off at day care or school. Then head off to work. I could not do that! I enjoy our slow mornings. Hanging out with my kids and being the boss of my day. Although sometimes that can be a curse! Hello, staying in PJs all day! Sure, we can skip homeschool today! Oh, you want a brownie for lunch why not?!

Knowing my personality and how I want my day to flow, having a job with flexibility is a must! While starting a blog in 2024 does sound CRAZY with all I already have going on, I am looking forward to the challenge. Everyone has the same 168 hours in a week, and 24 hours in a day. It is just a matter of how we spend that time.

Blogging Let’s Me Stay Home with My Kids

Another reason I am starting a blog in 2024 is so I can continue to stay home with my kids. While I do desire to contribute to our family’s finances, I DO NOT want to be away from my kids every day. People think my husband and I are nuts, and often ask us… How could you want more kids? Do you even know where babies come from? You know your wife will lose her mind being home with your kids all day. Have you thought about hiring a service to help with the kids or even the house?

I love our life and know I would regret living it any other way. I will admit not every day is fun and sugar cookies. Sometimes we all have meltdowns. Kids struggle to share. We are tired or hangry, but at least I get to be there every day for my kids. I get to see all their firsts. Be there to cuddle them when they don’t feel well. Teach them to read. See them show kindness to others when they think no one is looking. Even hear their silly phrases over and over until they get annoying! Choosing to stay home with my kids has been a huge blessing, and I am thankful every day I get to be here with them.

Starting a Blog Will Allow My Husband to Come Home

Now we get to the big picture reasons why I am starting a blog in 2024. Our family’s dream is to be home together every day. Creating a business in order to make a full-time income greater than what my husband brings home is a goal we have and want to achieve in the next three years. My husband misses out on so much concerning our kids each day when he goes to work. Being able to create an income from home that provides for our family so he doesn’t have to would be a wonderful thing. I also tease him that having him homes means I get a Hott Manny to help with the kids 🙂

From where I currently stand this dream seems wild and a very big reach. I am always learning something new about blogging and am told it is a continually changing field. With time and consistency, I believe we can make this dream our reality.

Building Dreams Bigger than Our Family

The final reason I am starting a blog in 2024 if for the dreams God has placed on our hearts that our bigger than our family. From the time my husband and I met we have both desired to foster and adopt children. While we have started both processes numerous times, with the ages of our kids and the state we live in we have been unable to follow through with either. For now, God is telling us to wait.

We also dream of starting a homestead that will sustain our family. Considering we have four boys and as they get bigger, they will consume MORE food this would be a wise step for us. From there we want to also use our growing homestead to start a CSA or Community Supported Agriculture Ministry to help others, but I won’t go into all those details at this time. After that the sky is the limit on what God will call us too next.

I hope this had been an encouraging read for you. Perhaps you will be inspired to follow the dreams on your heart no matter how terrifying they may seem. As country singer Cody Johnson sings, “If you got a dream, chase it, ’cause a dream won’t chase you back.” You don’t want to regret not chasing those dreams later in life. With God in the driver’s seat this life may feel like a roller-coaster, but if we just sit back and enjoy this thrilling ride it will be worth it!

What dreams are you nervous to pursue? Share them in the comments so we can encourage each other!
