Fun Read Alouds for Kids Ages 10 and Younger

Our family enjoys reading aloud almost every day before Nap Time. Over the years we have tried numerous book series and after polling my kids these are their favorites. Any of these books listed are great for kids ages 10 and younger. Check out our list of fun read alouds for kids! For your ease, I added some links to help find certain book series. Picture Books

  1. Help Me Be Good Series by Joy Berry. “Helps teach kids to understand and deal with various topics. Such as Being Rude, Being Messy, Breaking Promises, etc.”
  2. Heroes for Young Readers Series by Renee Taft Meloche. “Introduces children to the exciting true stories of Christian heroes.”

Beginner Chapter Books

  1. Adventures in Fosterland by Hannah Shaw. “Inspired by true stories of Hannah Shaw’s, also known as Kitten Lady, own beloved foster animals”
  2. Heidi Hecklebeck OR Henry Hecklebeck by Wanda Coven. “A young chapter book series about the Hecklebeck family and their witchy whimsy.”
  3. The Adventures of Sophie Mouse by Poppy Green. “A charming series about a little mouse and her forest friends.”
  4. Crooked Creek Ranch Series by Amy Drorbaugh. “The Crooked Creek Ranch series follows the adventures of the Smith family on their working cattle ranch in southern California in the early 1900s.”

Chapter Books

  1. Little House on the Prairie Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
  2. The Growly Books by Philip and Erin Ulrich. “A young bear named Growly sets out on a desperate journey to find his grandfather’s long-lost friend … and to find a way back home.”
  3. A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond. “The classic tale begins when a bear from Peru winds up in London’s Paddington Station and is subsequently adopted by the Brown family.”
  4. Pathway Reading Series. “Tells stories that reflects the agrarian environment in which many Amish children live. Written with content that is God-honoring and wholesome.”
