First let me say, Congratulations if you are reading this and are expecting a baby! 🙂 For some women First Trimester can be a hard season. Rather than dreading the Morning Sickness, Nausea, feeling Tired, Food Aversion, etc. be thankful for this time. You’re not feeling so great means that baby is doing well and growing as he or she should be. Having been through this experience many times over I wanted to share some Tips to Make it Through First Trimester.

Stock Up on Remedies
When Morning Sickness OR Nausea hit, you want to be prepared. Having basics like Soup and Crackers. Protein Snacks such as Egg Bites, Hard Boiled Eggs, Meat, Cheese, Peanut Butter, Crackers etc. These items are nice to have on hand for when you go from feeling sick to ravenous. Or when you realize you just need to eat something because a few hours have gone by.
Having various drinks available such as Ginger Ale, Flavored Water, etc. is always a good idea so you don’t have to worry about becoming dehydrated. I always carry around my Simple Modern 50oz Cream Leopard Mug Tumbler filled with Water. I may also have some Body Armor in the fridge if I just need something with flavor. Throughout First Trimester I always have Ginger Ale available for when I am feeling overly nauseated.
Double Recipes + Freeze One
Your future nauseated self will thank you for this one. It is also one less think to think about when you feel sick and/or tired. Make a list of meals your family enjoys OR easy Premade Freezer Meals you can get from the store. Cook and Freeze these when you feel up to it, so you know your family won’t go hungry.
Some simple meals our family enjoys are Tacos OR Quesadillas, Lasagna with Garlic Bread, Pizza, Chicken Nuggets, BBQ Chicken Nachos, Hamburgers with Fries, Hotdogs and Buns, etc. Some of these I do make homemade and some I buy from the frozen section at the Grocery Store so there is variety available for Sam and the Kids.
Lower Expectations
First Trimester may hit you hard OR it may not. Cut back on what you can if you are not feeling well.
I always focus on our Family’s Basics. This looks like, care for the Kids. Daily Chores… Unload and Load Dishwasher, Wipe Down Table and Sweep. Decide what is going to be for Dinner and Fix Meals. Homeschool Olivia and the Older Boys. Maybe complete one blog thing. I am usually a month or two ahead so I can afford to take the time off if needed. I might even have a stretch goal for the day in case I felt up to it, if not then I didn’t worry about it.
Rest. Rest. Rest.
You are growing a baby so when your body tells you to sleep and you can, DO IT! The laundry, dishes, or whatever household task can wait. Nap when your kids nap. Let them watch a show while you snooze for 20 to 30 minutes. Go to bed early, etc. I have done all these at various times over the years with each pregnancy.
Take it One Day at a Time
It took me a few pregnancies to learn this. First Trimester hits me differently with each kid, so I always dread it. However just taking one day at a time makes the time pass quicker. Instead of being negative and thinking, “Ugh, I have x number of weeks left of feeling poorly I will never make it!”
First Trimester with this current pregnancy was a blur. We were preparing to move. I was tired and nauseated most of the time. Eating was a chore as nothing sounded that great. Homeschool work was kept very simple. Most days I had enough energy to get the basics done. OK, so maybe laundry may have gone unfolded for a few days. The kids may also have survived on more Frozen Pizza and Chicken Nuggets than I care to admit, but hey we made it through!
